Preparing for growth

With negotiations for the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership well underway, the Vietnamese apparel and footwear industry anticipates rapid and rigid change. Particularly the Trans-Pacific Partnership is expected to drive significant investment for spinning and weaving activities into Vietnam. These investments will enable the Vietnamese apparel and footwear industry to put increasingly vertically integrated production processes in place. As a result, dyeing and other production processes that contain numerous chemicals will occur more frequently, with profound environmental consequences.

Setting up sustainable milling practices

Task Force 2 will help mills to set up sustainable weaving and dyeing processes. Initially, the Task Force will disseminate best environmental practices. The above-mentioned pilot projects will furthermore showcase the viability of investment in sustainable production schemes. Task Force 2 will work toward creating and disseminating incentives that help manufacturers channel investments into sustainable production techniques.
